Inspired by Maggie Mason’s Mighty Life List, I’ve compiled some goals to try to challenge myself and focus my efforts. I’ve made the items achievable, interesting, and worthwhile according to my own interests.
Food
- Try 100 types of tea.
- Cook a risotto.
- Master the lasagna.
- Cook at least 5 recipes out of every cookbook I own.
- Make pierogis, dumplings or ravioli from scratch.
- Find my favourite stand-by salad dressing recipe.
- Grow my own vegetables.
- Learn how to use 10 new whole grains in my diet successfully (such as teff, millet, wheat berries).
Start to consistently cook beans from scratch.Done! Now a habit thanks to the pressure cooker.- Learn how to freeze foods well.
- Discover 5 great healthy but delicious dessert recipes.
- Make homemade ice cream.
- Learn how to take better food photographs.
- Learn how to make great baby food (obviously baby is a pre-requisite for this one!).
- Make quinoa 20 different ways.
Fitness
- Go on a full day hiking adventure.
- Do one full round of P90X or Insanity.
- Try 5 types of yoga.
- Learn how to play tennis well.
- Go on a multi-day biking trip.
- Run a 10K in under an hour.
- Run a half marathon.
- Try playing squash.
- Be able to do 10 regular pushups without stopping.
- Learn to do a pull-up (or two, or more).
Wellness
- Meditate every day for a week.
- Meditate every day for a month.
- Learn tai chi.
- Take a two week vacation from computers.
- Take a one month vacation from television.
- Go on a wellness retreat.
- Reach a healthy weight and maintain it.
- Read 50 books in 2012.
